June 16th, 2010 at 7:17 pmIt’s easy and I refinished mine that had a wicker back and it looked really good afer I stained it. One thing that concerns me is the pattern in the wood. If there is old paint, old varnish, I would get a sandpaper like 220 grit that scoffs at it rather than something like 80 or 60 grit that can really dig too hard into the wood. There are sanding blocks you can get that are already gritted and they are really more forgiving on your hands. If you want to stain it go for it. Minwax makes beautiful stains. Just stir, stir, stir when you open that can. I personally would use an old t-shirt to stain. Foam brushes are good for one thing-to make a big mess, steer clear of them. I don’t even know why we sell them!!! Or bristle brushes are wonderful. Seal with a clear polyurethene in semi-gloss, gloss, or just plain poly. Whatever you would prefer. I wouldn’t go with a high gloss to tell you the truth. Have fun. It’ll be worth your effort and you’ll be so proud of it after you can sit in it with a cold glass of tea.
